03.11.2025 10:25:46 If a Ukrainian citizen passes away in the UK, the death must be registered both with the UK authorities and the Ukrainian Consulate. First, obtain the official UK death certificate from the local registrar. This document must then be legalized with an apostille and translated into Ukrainian by a certified translator. You should submit the legalized certificate, the deceased’s Ukrainian passport or ID, and proof of your relationship to the deceased to the Ukrainian Consulate for registration in Ukraine’s civil registry. The Consulate issues a consular certificate of death registration and transmits information to the State Civil Registry Office in Ukraine. While the Consulate does not arrange physical repatriation, it can provide guidance on required documentation and coordinate with Ukrainian and UK funeral service providers for the lawful transportation of remains or ashes.

03.11.2025 10:28:32 When a Ukrainian national dies in the UK, relatives or authorized representatives should first register the death with UK civil authorities to obtain a death certificate. To register the death in Ukraine, this certificate must be apostilled, translated into Ukrainian, and submitted to the Ukrainian Consulate together with the deceased’s Ukrainian passport, proof of kinship, and an application for death registration. The Consulate records the event and forwards it to Ukraine’s registry system for official recognition. Although the Consulate cannot directly organize repatriation of the body, it provides detailed instructions on transportation procedures, customs clearance, and necessary permits for returning remains to Ukraine. The Consulate can also issue supporting letters for funeral agencies and coordinate with relevant authorities when repatriation is requested.
